Hi , im pretty new to the UT world so please forgive me for my thickness towards it lol.

Right lets start with the probem I had . . .

Driving along (not driving hard or anything like that) bit of blue smoke coming out exhaust , then randomly would just cut out as if you turned the ignition key off :Oo

Now i was told by a old owner of the car that valve stem seals needed doing so I have had these done but my mate that done them who is a mechanic said the old ones werent in a bad way and thinks it could be something else .

Do i put the head back on and put everything back together or is there something else obvious i should do while the engine is pretty much in pieces ?

Have any of you had this problem before ?

Thanks in advance

Zac

Its the only other seal where oil is capable of getting into the exhaust.

As for the cutting out, check the air flow meter (AFM) to turbo inlet hose, they can split thus causing an air leak which I think can cause problems with the dampening chamber in the AFM unit.

To save future hassle or problems it's worth getting the turbo reconditioned.

As for the NA manifold I doubt it'll have the same internal flow characteristics as the turbo manifold.

Air moving through an engine is by no means an "easy" subject to get your head around!
I'm at uni studying Motorsport Engineering and it's a right mind fuck! lol
But brilliant when it clicks................

I would say the cutting out is something different to the blue smoke / turbo or valve seals... I would think its a fueling problem or possibly one of the sensors (flywheel sensors can get bunged up and lose the connection, i had a 3 month period once of intermittent cutting out that drove me mad and it was the flywheels sensor, is all it needed was a squirt of contact cleaner)... Also i have a good condition mk2 turbo rebuilt by turbo dynamics for sale if you need it... :thumleft:
